After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Mr. Engel spent four years with Cities Service Oil Company before joining the cable television industry in 1972. During his 30-plus years in media, he has served as president & CEO of Bauce Cellular (Cellular One), vice president of operations for Jones Intercable (cable television); president & COO of the Pat Thompson Company (media brokerage & investment banking), president of SynCom Media Group (television station group ownership), vice president and COO of Western Communications (cable television, broadcast radio, and publishing),executive vice president and COO of Telemedia Associates & MaxT el (publishing, share-tenant telephone, and private cable),
president & COO of Leonard International (cable television in the UK), president & CEO of Milestone Communications (cable television operator), & managing partner of Milestone Media Partners, LLC (consulting and brokerage of towers, cable television, broadband, Internet, telecommunications, & broadcast properties).
He has been involved in cellular, radio, cable television, paging, publications, and low-power television. He provided expert testimony before the Library of Congress/copyright tribunal. He served as director, president, and vice president of several communications trade associations and on several panels including "RSA Cellular Values” & "The Status of International Cable Television”. He has completed more than 200 acquisitions as a buyer, seller, or broker totaling more than $700 million and has been involved in raising more than $500 million in debt and equity for various entities. International experience includes Asia, UK, and the South Pacific.
Derrick Engel has joined Milestone Media Partners as a Partner to head up the California Office. Derrick attended Colorado Mountain College, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, and Metro State College in Denver. Prior to joining Milestone Media Partners, Derrick was Account Manager for national and regional accounts for High Plains Radio Network in Texas, Nevada and Colorado, and Senior Account Executive for Distinctive Cellars, Ltd. Derrick will be working primarily in the Tower and Spectrum sectors, and exploring new business development for Milestone.
